Pilates is an holistic approach to maintaining body strength, balance and symmetry. The Classic Pilates approach founded by Joseph Hubertus Pilates, during the early 20th century, is based on toning the body and correcting poor posture.  The exercises he championed focus on movements/exercises that become progressively more difficult to do - hence the phrase 'mind, body union', where the participants concentration, to carry out the exercises slowly are crucial to correct posture and strengthen one's unique structure - the body.
 
Everyones' body is  different and so are their minds' however with Pilates one can achieve a workout that is both strong yet gentle, relaxing yet engaging.  With regular practice one can  strengthen your whole body, improve posture and fortify your mind.
