Modern Dance

The Simonson Technique is a modern jazz dance form founded on anatomically based principle of body awareness and alignment. Students work within their natural abilities, not forced range of joint motion, and without hyper-extending their knees. It is renowned to be an intelligent and logical way to prepare the body for dance without injury.  Students are guided individually to discover their incorrect movement habits and replace them with healthier, more correct posture.  This technique is currently being taught is 20 countries worldwide and has now been introduced to Cyprus through the work of Natalie Heller.

Natalie’s interest lies clearly in the union between the mind and the body.  In 2006 she graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Philosophy.  She went on to train as a dance performer and teacher in New York where she attained a certification in Simonson Modern Jazz.  This is an injury-prevention dance technique founded on anatomical awareness.  In 2007 she became a certified thai masseuse and finds great pleasure in helping people ‘feel good’ in their bodies.  Natalie has been teaching dance and yoga for over six years.

“What best defines my work as a teacher, therapist and performer is that I combine the knowledge I have attained in all my pathways of life (philosophy, anatomy, therapy) forever trying to move towards a more complete experience of being.  If there is one thing I can say for certain, it’s that the mind/body union is a domain which calls for continual research and expolration, providing life long material for inspiration."
